Tanko Yakasai: Opposition Just Shadowboxing, z”I’ve Not Seen Anything That Will Stop Tinubu’s Re-election
Veteran Northern politician and elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has declared his full confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects, saying he sees no serious obstacle that could prevent the president from securing a second term in office.
Speaking during a media interaction in Kano, Yakasai praised President Tinubu’s leadership and the current administration’s progress in economic reforms, noting improvements in key areas such as food prices and fuel availability.
He described the recent drop in the prices of staple food items like rice, beans, and maize as evidence of economic stabilization under Tinubu’s watch.
“I’ve not seen anything that will stop Tinubu’s re-election,” Yakasai said firmly. “The country is beginning to feel the effects of his policies, and with time, more Nigerians will come to appreciate his leadership.”
He also pointed out that the recent reduction in petrol prices—from over ₦1,100 to about ₦850 per litre in some locations—was a sign of improved economic management and a result of Tinubu’s policy direction.
Yakasai, a long-time advocate for unity in national politics, cautioned against the idea that any single region can decide the outcome of a presidential election in Nigeria. He stressed the importance of national consensus, saying, “The North alone cannot decide the next president, and neither can the South. It requires a collective effort across regions.”
Commenting on opposition figures and emerging coalitions aimed at challenging the president in 2027, Yakasai dismissed their current strength, stating that none appear to have the structure or national appeal needed to defeat an incumbent like Tinubu.
“Unless something dramatically changes in the political landscape, I do not see any group or individual mounting a serious challenge against Tinubu in 2027,” he added.
Yakasai also urged President Tinubu to continue to run an inclusive government that reflects Nigeria’s diversity and gives every part of the country a sense of belonging.
With the next presidential election still two years away, Yakasai’s remarks underscore a growing confidence within some segments of the political establishment that President Tinubu remains the leading candidate heading into 2027.
