Israeli Police Kill Perpetrator of Stabbing Attack in East Jerusalem

A stabbing attack in annexed east Jerusalem on Friday left a 25-year-old police officer wounded, according to Israeli authorities.

The perpetrator of the attack was subsequently “shot and neutralized” by Israeli police officers at the scene.

The incident occurred in the Old City of Jerusalem, a highly sensitive and contested area. The police officer was stabbed and wounded, prompting a swift response from Israeli security forces.

Israel’s first responders, the Magen David Adom, provided medical attention to the wounded officer at the scene before evacuating him to a hospital for further treatment.

A police statement confirmed the incident, stating: “A short time ago, a police officer was stabbed in the Old City of Jerusalem. The suspect was shot and neutralized by officers at the scene.”

The statement added that an officer was wounded in the attack.

At the time of reporting, there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The incident is likely to be investigated by Israeli authorities to determine the motivations and affiliations of the perpetrator.

The attack comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, with periodic outbreaks of violence and clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinian protesters.

The incident serves as a reminder of the complex and sensitive nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
