Saudi Coalition Shoots Down Two Drones Over Riyadh
Two drones were intercepted and destroyed in the area around the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Monday, according to the military coalition led by Saudi Arabia in Yemen.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al Maliki announced the interception but did not elaborate on the details of the attack. He also did not say who launched the drones.
The incident follows a run of similar reports over recent days, with the coalition saying it has brought down drones and missiles over several parts of the kingdom, including Riyadh. Yemen’s Houthi movement, which is backed by Iran and has been fighting the coalition since 2015, has stepped up attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.
Among them was a strike on Riyadh’s King Khalid Airport in October that reportedly killed 13 travellers, wounded more than 300 and forced the airport to close for about two weeks.
