Kano Assembly To Screen Two Commissioner Nominees Tuesday
The Kano State House of Assembly will on Tuesday screen two additional commissioner-nominees forwarded by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for confirmation as members of the State Executive Council, as the governor moves to fill vacancies created by the recent cabinet reshuffle.
The correspondence from the Governor was presented during Monday’s plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, who announced that the nominees are expected to appear before the House on Tuesday for thorough screening and possible confirmation in line with the Assembly’s constitutional mandate.
According to a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the new nominees are Abdulkarim Rabiu Maude, SAN, and Dr Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the immediate past Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics, both nominated in accordance with powers conferred on the Governor by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The screening scheduled for Tuesday is coming just days after the House had confirmed six commissioner-nominees on October 26, 2026, who were subsequently sworn in by Governor Yusuf on October 30, alongside three advisers and 19 permanent secretaries to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery across the state.
Those earlier confirmed were Air Commodore Salisu Yusha’u (rtd.) assigned to the Ministry of Internal Security and Special Services, Ibrahim Namadi Dala to Investment, Professor Sani Lawan Manunfashi to Higher Education, Muktar Ishaq Yakasai to Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa to Science and Technology and Idris Garba Mustapha to Special Duties.
Following that swearing-in, Governor Yusuf announced a minor cabinet reshuffle involving the redeployment of Dr Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya from the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Hamza Kachaco to the Ministry of Environment, leaving the Ministries of Information and Internal Affairs and Solid Minerals and Mineral Resources without commissioners.
The Assembly assured that it will carry out a thorough and fair screening of the two new nominees on Tuesday, noting that the appointments, if confirmed, are expected to form part of the state government’s efforts to constitute and strengthen its executive team and fill the existing vacancies in the State Executive Council.
