Israeli Fire Kills Palestinian, Wounds Woman, Child in Khan Younis
Israeli forces shot dead at least one Palestinian and wounded two others, a woman and a child, in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis on Monday, according to a medical source.
The source at Nasser Hospital said the incident took place in the al Batin al Samin area. Further details on the identity of the victims and the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.
The shooting comes a day after Israeli strikes killed at least eight people across the territory, including five police officers in western Khan Younis, with mourners gathering at Nasser Hospital on Sunday to bury five of the dead. Israel says Hamas has been rearming and carrying out attacks in breach of the ceasefire that took effect a year ago, and it has stepped up strikes on the group in recent weeks. Hamas denies the claims and accuses Israel of undermining the peace deal.
Gaza’s health officials say at least 1,580 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since the truce began, while Israel says four of its soldiers have died over the same period. Nearly all of the territory’s more than two million residents are crowded into the remaining third of the enclave, living largely in tents and damaged buildings.
