FEC Okays N631.3 Billion For Nine Road Projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved about N631.3 billion for nine road infrastructure projects across Nigeria. The Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced this on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while briefing State House correspondents after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said the projects cover the construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of key road corridors, with the aim of improving access and easing the movement of people and goods.

The biggest approval is N209 billion for the reconstruction of the 81.1-kilometre Ado–Ilawe–Ilumaba–Ikole Road in Ekiti State, which includes a bridge. In Kogi State, N167 billion was approved for the reconstruction of the 95-kilometre Etuke–Okene–Ankpa–Otopa Road. The council also approved N89.2 billion for the 47-kilometre Bichi Ring Road in Kano State, which includes a flyover.

Other approvals include about N62 billion for the Tungo–Karamti Road linking Adamawa and Taraba states, with five bridges, and N20.257 billion for an 18-kilometre road connecting Asiago to the Port Harcourt–Enugu Expressway. N30 billion was earmarked for remedial works on bad sections of the East–West Road, and N28.218 billion for rehabilitating a 17-kilometre stretch of the Sokoto–Illela Road. FEC also approved N11.33 billion for a road earlier handled by the Abia State Government, after its funding under the NNPC Limited tax-credit scheme was discontinued.

On the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano corridor, Umahi said the council commended the president on the completion of the first 118-kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria Road. The section was finished in 30 months, with 81 kilometres built in reinforced concrete. Work on the 164-kilometre second section is nearing completion, with 16 kilometres left. The entire 375-kilometre corridor will also get solar-powered streetlights.

Umahi also spoke on the Lagos–Abidjan coastal highway. Ministers from the countries along the corridor are to meet on Friday to discuss funding. The Nigerian section is 79 kilometres, with Togo at 89, Ghana at 576, Côte d’Ivoire at 155 and Benin Republic at 128. Under the proposed arrangement, the African Development Bank would lend to each country to finance its own section.
