University of Ghana Orders Students Below 1.00 CGPA to Withdraw
The University of Ghana has directed undergraduate students who finished the 2025/2026 academic year with a Cumulative Grade Point Average below 1.00 to withdraw from their respective programmes.
The directive was contained in a notice issued by the university’s Academic Affairs Directorate, citing Section 9.26 of the University Regulations for Junior Members (2017).
Under the regulation, students are required to maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.00, in addition to satisfying any academic requirements set by their schools or departments, to qualify for progression to the next level.
The university said students who fail to meet the required academic standard are not placed on probation.
“Accordingly, students whose CGPAs fall below 1.00 upon receipt of all grades for their registered courses at the end of the 2025/2026 Academic Year are not in good academic standing and are required to withdraw from their programmes of study,” the notice stated.
Affected students have been asked to verify their academic standing by checking their CGPAs through the university’s Management Information System Web.
Those required to withdraw are also expected to access the Student and Academic Services Portal with their student identification numbers and PINs and select the “Withdrawal Request” option to begin the process.
The university noted that for some programmes, the relevant schools or departments would handle the withdrawal procedure on behalf of affected students.
Students who require further information or clarification have been advised to contact the Academic Office of their respective colleges.
The university also said its Careers and Counselling Directorate would be available to assist affected students with guidance and support following the withdrawal directive.
The measure forms part of the university’s academic progression requirements, which require students to maintain the stipulated minimum performance level before advancing to another academic year.
