Church’s Education Investment Supports Government, Says Dominion University Chancellor
The Chancellor of Dominion University, Ibadan, Taiwo Adelakun, has said the church’s investment in education is aimed at supporting government efforts and raising a new generation of Nigerian leaders. He noted that these leaders would be equipped with sound academic knowledge, moral values and the fear of God.
Adelakun spoke to journalists at the university premises in Ibadan on Tuesday ahead of activities marking the institution’s 4th Convocation ceremony. He explained that faith-based institutions have a responsibility to contribute to national development by producing young people who can use their education and values to address societal challenges.
He said the church is investing in education to raise children and academics who stand firmly on their values and have the fear of God.
According to him, the university’s efforts form part of the church’s broader contribution to developing human capacity and preparing young people for responsible leadership.
On security, Adelakun said the combined efforts of the Oyo, Ogun and Lagos State Governments have improved safety along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor.
He added that the university works with security agencies and has put measures in place, including police patrols, over the past three years.
The acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof Jonah Akoun, highlighted the academic achievements of the graduating students. Among them was Nadia Rita Bayakly, who graduated with a First-Class degree in Mass Communication and a perfect cumulative grade point average of 5.0.
He emphasised that university education should equip students to drive social transformation and contribute meaningfully to society.
