Arewa Group Endorses Tinubu’s Re-election, Praises Kano Dam Projects

The Arewa Revival Project has declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid. The group pointed to the Federal Government’s work on ecological projects under the Kano River Irrigation Scheme as a key reason for its backing.

In a statement released on Thursday by Project Coordinator, Muttaka Ibrahim, the group praised the rehabilitation and expansion efforts at Tiga Dam, Challawa Gorge Dam and Kafin Chiri Dam in Kano State. It described the interventions, handled by the Ecological Project Office, as clear proof of the administration’s focus on food security, climate resilience and rural development in Northern Nigeria.

Tiga Dam, built in 1974, holds about 1.97 billion cubic metres of water and can irrigate roughly 230,000 hectares while also generating 10 megawatts of hydropower. The ongoing work aims to open new irrigation areas in Yakasai, Gwamma and Gurjiya covering around 875 hectares through new canals and related facilities.

At Challawa Gorge Dam, the project targets 240 hectares of irrigable land by building and repairing main canals, distribution channels, field canals and access roads. Work at Kafin Chiri Dam is expected to add about 165 hectares of irrigation land across the Kunpada, Matanfa and Maida sectors.

The group stressed the need for timely completion, proper maintenance, transparency and community involvement so the projects can deliver lasting benefits. It said continuity under Tinubu’s leadership would help finish current schemes and expand development efforts across the region.
