JAMB Registrar Admits Technical Errors in 2025 UTME Results, Announces Retake for Affected Candidates

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, has addressed the widespread complaints over the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, acknowledging that technical errors had affected some candidates’ scores.

In a press conference held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the JAMB National Headquarters in Abuja, Prof. Oloyede apologized for the mistakes and announced plans to rectify the situation.

According to Prof. Oloyede, an investigation into the complaints revealed that the errors occurred due to a technical glitch in the system used for the examination.

He explained that the board uses two operational “vehicles” to manage the examination, code-named “KAD” and “LAG,” which cover different regions of the country. However, during the examination, an update was made to the LAG system, which inadvertently failed to update some of the delivery servers, affecting 157 centers in Lagos and Owerri zones.

As a result, 65 centers in Lagos and 92 centers in Owerri zone were affected, with a total of 380,000 candidates impacted. Prof. Oloyede apologized for the mistake, stating that it was not a case of sabotage or glitches, but rather a human error on the part of the service provider.

To address the issue, JAMB has decided to conduct a retake of the examination for the affected candidates, starting from Friday, May 16, 2025. The candidates will be contacted through text messages, email addresses, and phone calls, and will be required to reprint their examination slips for the rescheduled examination dates.

Prof. Oloyede expressed his gratitude to the Honourable Minister of Education, stakeholders, and experts who have supported JAMB in resolving the issue.

He also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the affected candidates and their families, stating that JAMB remains committed to upholding integrity, transparency, and fairness in its operations.
