Police Arrest Suspected Robber, Recover AK-47, Two Locally Made Guns in Delta
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba and recovered three firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, alongside ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, working with local vigilantes.
The police said Nimel was suspected of belonging to an armed robbery syndicate linked to several residential robbery incidents in Asaba and neighbouring communities.
The command’s spokesman, Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday.
According to the statement, information obtained from the suspect during interrogation led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where they recovered an AK-47 rifle, three rounds of live ammunition and two locally made cut-to-size guns.
The police said investigations were ongoing to establish further details about the suspect’s alleged activities and the operations of the suspected criminal network.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Samuel Erale, commended the operatives for the arrest and recovery of the firearms.
Eralе reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies, assuring them of the police command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property.
