Wike Vows to Resign if Tinubu Fails to Win FCT, Rivers in 2027
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he would resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win both the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the statement while reaffirming his commitment to Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that he remains politically responsible for delivering support for the President in the two strategic territories. He has repeatedly described himself as being in charge of the political structures in Rivers State and the FCT.
According to the minister, his political future is closely tied to the outcome of the 2027 election, particularly in Rivers State and the nation’s capital, where he believes he has significant influence.
Wike has consistently maintained that his support for Tinubu transcends party lines and is rooted in what he describes as the President’s performance in office. He has also said his political efforts are focused on ensuring Tinubu secures a second term.
The former Rivers State governor has previously stated that he considers himself one of the politicians most exposed if Tinubu loses the presidential election, arguing that opposition figures would likely target him because of his vocal support for the President.
His remarks come amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and political leaders intensifying consultations, endorsements and campaign preparations across the country.
Wike has repeatedly expressed confidence that Tinubu will secure victory in both Rivers State and the FCT, insisting that his political structure remains active and capable of mobilising support ahead of the polls.
The declaration adds to the growing political rhetoric surrounding the 2027 election as key figures continue to position themselves and their allies for the contest.
