Us-bound Delta Jet Makes Emergency Landing in Portugal
A Delta Airlines passenger jet made an emergency landing at Porto airport in northern Portugal on Sunday after smoke was detected in the cabin. The plane was travelling from Barcelona to Boston in the United States.
The aircraft was carrying 296 passengers when the crew decided to divert. Civil protection authorities confirmed that the plane landed safely at the airport.
Fourteen passengers required assistance after the landing. Four of them were taken to hospital after inhaling smoke, though officials described their condition as light.
The cause of the smoke in the cabin was not immediately known.
Authorities continued to assess the situation following the incident.
The emergency landing brought a temporary disruption to the flight’s schedule, with medical teams on hand to attend to those affected. Further details on the technical issue were still being examined.
