The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has called on the Presidency to give an immediate explanation for President Bola Tinubu’s continued absence from Nigeria.

The party noted that the President’s stay abroad has extended six days beyond the three-week vacation that was originally announced.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the ADC said the lack of clear information about Tinubu’s whereabouts and the reasons for the extension has raised public concern. It pointed to the country’s economic hardship and security challenges as reasons why transparency is important.

The council stressed that the office of the President is a public trust. It argued that Nigerians are entitled to know where their President is and who is exercising presidential authority while he remains outside the country.

The ADC demanded that the Presidency disclose Tinubu’s current location, explain the prolonged absence and clarify the constitutional arrangements in place during this period. It also questioned the decision to extend the vacation and have the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, represent the President at official functions.

The party said administrative explanations alone would not answer the fundamental question of who is effectively in charge of the nation’s affairs. It urged the Presidency to provide a clear and comprehensive account, warning that continued silence could increase public anxiety and speculation.
