President Bola Tinubu’s participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York has yet to be confirmed, as Nigeria prepares to send a delegation of about 24 senior government officials to the annual gathering.

The development has raised the possibility that Vice President Kashim Shettima could again lead Nigeria’s delegation, as he did during the previous UN General Assembly.

The 81st UNGA is scheduled to bring together world leaders and senior government representatives in New York for discussions on global political, economic and development issues.

Among the Nigerian officials expected to participate are members of the Federal Executive Council and other senior government representatives who are expected to engage in bilateral meetings and discussions on issues affecting Nigeria’s interests.

The delegation is expected to use the international gathering to promote Nigeria’s economic interests, attract investment and strengthen diplomatic relations with other countries.

Nigeria’s participation will also provide an opportunity for government officials to highlight ongoing reforms and seek international partnerships in areas including trade, investment, infrastructure and development.

Tinubu’s final decision on whether to attend the gathering personally had not been confirmed at the time of the report.

If he does not attend, Shettima is expected to represent the President and lead the Nigerian delegation at the high-level meeting.
