Screenwriter of Kava’s First African Original Speaks on *A Mama Deola Wedding Story

Brooks Eti-Inyene, the screenwriter of *A Mama Deola Wedding Story*, has said she is ready to discuss the film after it became Kava’s first original production in Africa.

The movie, which premiered on the streaming platform on 3 September, expands Folagade Banks’ Mama Deola skit character into a feature about a mother organising her son’s wedding. Banks produced. Femi Adebayo directed. The cast includes Omowunmi Dada, Rotimi Salami and veteran Yoruba-screen actors.

Eti-Inyene’s public comments frame the job as a first for Kava on the continent and as a credit she is now claiming in her own name. Feature writing from a viral sketch is a common Nollywood path. Reviews of the finished film have been mixed, with some arguing it still plays like an extended skit.

Kava commissioned the title as exclusive African content. Banks has spoken of building a franchise from the character. The screenwriter’s interview is the other half of that launch: the person who put the sketch on a shooting script.
