The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it is confident of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, provided the poll is conducted freely and fairly.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast while discussing the opposition’s chances despite the emergence of several political groups ahead of the election.

Abdullahi said the ADC had confidence in its electoral prospects but identified the credibility of the election as a major concern.

“Yes, we believe so. In a free and fair election, we have no doubt in my mind that we win this election,” he said.

The ADC spokesman also said the party was preparing to safeguard its votes, alleging that the APC could attempt to manipulate the electoral process.

“The challenge is: Will there be a fair and fair election. We are ready for that. We are ready for anything,” Abdullahi said.

He added, “If you are dealing with these APC people, you have to be ready for anything quickly because we know that they want to steal the election. We will police our vote.”

Abdullahi further referred to a recent remark attributed to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, concerning the Osun State governorship election.

He argued that Wike’s reported claim that he would have delivered Osun State to the APC if he had been there raised concerns about possible attempts to influence election outcomes.

“What does that mean? That regardless of what the Osun people think, you have a way to deliver it. That’s confession,” he said.

The opposition spokesman also alleged that the APC was resorting to threats because it had lost the backing of Nigerians.

“We know Nigerians have abandoned them. They know Nigerians have abandoned them, and that’s why they are threatening everybody,” Abdullahi said.

He said the ADC was consequently approaching the 2027 election with a focus on protecting its supporters and votes throughout the electoral process.
