Former Minister of Aviation and Ambassador designate, Femi Fani-Kayode, has condemned the reported killings of Nigerians in South Africa, warning that continued attacks on Nigerian citizens could have serious diplomatic consequences.

Fani-Kayode expressed concern over recent incidents involving the deaths of Nigerians in South Africa, describing the situation as unacceptable and calling on authorities in the country to take decisive action against those responsible.

He urged the South African government to ensure the safety of foreign nationals, investigate the killings thoroughly and bring perpetrators to justice.

According to him, Nigerians living and conducting legitimate businesses abroad deserve protection and should not be subjected to violence, intimidation or discrimination.

The former minister also called on Nigerian authorities to continue engaging their South African counterparts to address growing concerns over the welfare of Nigerians residing in the country.

His comments come amid heightened tensions following reports of attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa and growing concern over anti-migrant violence. Nigerian officials recently disclosed that dozens of Nigerians have been killed in mob attacks, hate-related incidents and other forms of violence in recent years.

The remarks add to increasing calls from political leaders, civil society groups and diplomatic stakeholders for stronger measures to protect Nigerians and other African migrants living in South Africa.
