Lagos Plans Six-month Rebuild of Ikoyi Junctions to Ease Traffic
Lagos State Government says it will reconstruct two busy Ikoyi intersections within six months in a bid to ease chronic congestion around Parkview and Banana Island.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi told residents the first priority is the Turnbull–Parkview junctions on Gerrard Road, with related work on Banana Island access. Physical work is expected to start around mid-September once underground utilities — fibre, water and power — are mapped so the site is not cut open blindly.
Osiyemi said the job should run without a long pause and might finish early. Crews will slow down in peak hours and push harder off-peak so businesses and residents are not locked in all day. He also said compensation would be paid where the right of way clips private property.
Ikoyi has become a daily choke point as housing, offices and island traffic share a few junctions. The state presents the rebuild as a targeted fix, not a whole-corridor overhaul. Whether six months holds will depend on utilities, rain and how tightly traffic is managed while the ground is open.
