Defence Minister Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) has declared that Nigeria has defeated terrorists. He insisted that terrorist attacks are no longer as frequent or bold as they once were.

Musa made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He explained that insecurity in the country has largely shifted from terrorism to kidnapping.

When asked whether terrorists had been defeated or merely displaced, he said the attacks are no longer rampant and the main challenge is now kidnapping. He noted that people no longer hear as much about Boko Haram or ISWAP attacks, describing remaining incidents as occasional.

According to him, the security situation follows a pattern that moves from criminality to kidnapping, then to terrorism and insurgency. Once security forces successfully target the groups, the threat level drops again.

He said troops are currently entering hideouts and rescuing many abducted persons.

Musa also commented on his role in the APC presidential campaign team, stressing that his duties would remain non-partisan. He urged governors to stop distributing motorcycles as palliatives, warning that such items could end up being used by criminals, and called for local governments to function more effectively to improve security.
