Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori has appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Army to site the headquarters of the newly created 83 Division in Delta State.

The governor made the appeal during a stakeholders’ consultative meeting with a delegation from the Nigerian Army Headquarters in Asaba as part of ongoing consultations on the restructuring of military formations following the creation of the new division.

Oborevwori argued that Delta is strategically positioned to host the headquarters because of its central location within the division’s area of responsibility, which includes Delta, Edo and Bayelsa states.

He said the location would improve military response times and strengthen security coordination across the region.

The governor also highlighted the state’s importance to the nation’s economy, noting its extensive oil and gas assets, airports and seaports, which require adequate security protection.

According to him, the state government is prepared to support the establishment of the division by providing land, temporary facilities and other necessary assistance to facilitate a smooth take-off.

Oborevwori reaffirmed Delta’s commitment to partnering with the military and other security agencies to enhance peace and stability in the South-South region.

The proposed 83 Division is part of a broader expansion of the Nigerian Army aimed at improving operational efficiency, strengthening security coverage and reducing response times to emerging threats across the country.

Military officials said the new division will oversee operations in Delta, Edo and Bayelsa states, while additional formations are expected to be established to bolster security within the region.
