Five-time Grammy winner, Angelique Kidjo is set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday, becoming the first African musician and the first Black African to be recognised on the famous boulevard. The Beninese artist has built an international career spanning more than four decades.

Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, Ana Martinez described Kidjo’s artistry and global influence as an inspiration to audiences across generations and continents. She said the honour recognises the singer’s remarkable contributions to music and culture around the world.

The 66-year-old will be joined at the ceremony by Oscar-nominated American actor Willem Dafoe and record producer Harvey Mason Jr. Time magazine once called her “Africa’s premier diva.”

When the award was first announced last year, Kidjo said she may be the first African female singer to receive the star, but she was convinced she would not be the last. She expressed joy at the prospect of many others following in her footsteps.

The recognition marks a major milestone for African music on one of the world’s most iconic stages, highlighting Kidjo’s long-standing role as a bridge between African sounds and global audiences.
