Odegaard Says Arsenal Want to Win Everything After Community Shield Victory
Arsenal captain, Martin Odegaard has warned the club’s rivals that the Premier League champions are determined to “win everything” this season.
The midfielder spoke after Arsenal’s dominant 3-0 victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.
Odegaard delivered a man-of-the-match performance and scored the third goal in the win at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. Riccardo Calafiori opened the scoring after just 24 seconds, with Kai Havertz also finding the net before half-time.
Only four months earlier, Odegaard had lifted Arsenal’s first Premier League title since 2004 after the team finished seven points clear of City. He said the performance against their rivals, now managed by Enzo Maresca, showed that Arsenal’s hunger for silverware remains strong.
“We played some brilliant football. Great performance and a great way to start the season,” Odegaard said. “We showed our level today. We’re ready. We’re serious and we want to do it again. We want to attack it. When you get a taste of how nice it is, you want to do it again. We want to win everything.”
Arsenal, installed as favourites to retain the Premier League title, begin their league campaign at home to promoted Coventry on August 21. The Community Shield success has set an early tone for their title defence.
