Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu, calling for the arrest and prosecution of Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ifelodun, Boripe and Odo Otin Federal Constituency, over allegations that he threatened violence and death against people who are not members or supporters of his party.

The Speaker also demanded the prosecution of the Senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, whom he accused of promoting violence in the state.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo, Egbedun said what ought to be a celebration of democracy, civic participation and the peaceful exercise of constitutional rights was increasingly being overshadowed by disturbing statements, threats, intimidation, harassment and allegations of attempts to suppress voters ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

He stressed that the situation could not be dismissed as mere political rhetoric, warning that it raised serious concerns about threats to life and to the integrity of the voting process. He said he was particularly troubled by a video threat attributed to Eniade.

The petition comes amid mounting tension in Osun State following a separate viral video in which Fadahunsi was heard, while addressing APC supporters in Ilesa, appearing to urge them to attack or kill Accord Party members if sighted before election day.

That video, which circulated widely after being shared by Afrobeats star Davido, prompted Governor Ademola Adeleke to demand the senator’s arrest and describe the situation as a national security threat requiring the attention of the presidency through the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The Osun State Police Command has since summoned Fadahunsi to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo to clarify the remarks, though the senator has denied intending to incite physical attacks, describing his comments as political and metaphorical.

The developments come just days before Saturday’s closely contested governorship election, in which Adeleke is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform against APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, with tension already elevated following a shooting in Ilesa that reportedly left three people dead.
