Zulum Bans Sale of Petrol in Bama Filling Stations to Check Insecurity

Governor Babagana Zulum has directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in filling stations across the area, including Bama town and Banki.
The directive, which takes effect immediately, is part of the ongoing efforts to address the security concerns in the region.
According to a statement released by Malam Dauda Iliya, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, the decision was made after consultations with security agencies.
The governor emphasized that the ban is aimed at cutting off supplies to insurgents and curbing their mobility in conflict-affected areas.
“I have directed the immediate ban on the sale of petrol in Bama town, Banki, and other parts of Bama Local Government Area with immediate effect.
“Let me make it clear, there will be no sacred cows in the enforcement of this ban. Security agencies have been given strict orders to clamp down on any filling station or individual contravening this directive. Anyone found culpable will be dealt with accordingly,” Governor Zulum said.
The governor’s decision is seen as a strategic move to weaken the insurgents’ grip on the area, as petrol is a crucial resource for their operations.
By cutting off their supply lines, the government hopes to limit their mobility and disrupt their activities.
This is not the first time Governor Zulum has taken measures to tackle the security challenges in the state. He has consistently implemented policies aimed at curbing the activities of insurgents, including the closure of markets and the restriction of movement in certain areas.
The ban on petrol sales is expected to have a significant impact on the daily lives of residents in the affected areas. While some have expressed concerns about the potential hardship the ban may cause, others have welcomed the move as a necessary step towards restoring peace and security in the region.
The Borno State Government has assured residents that alternative arrangements will be made to ensure that essential services, such as healthcare and education, are not disrupted by the ban.
The government has also promised to provide support to affected businesses and individuals.
As the security situation in Bama Local Government Area continues to evolve, Governor Zulum has called on residents to remain vigilant and to cooperate with security agencies in their efforts to restore lasting peace in the state.
“We will not rest until we have achieved our goal of a peaceful and secure Borno State,” the governor said. “I urge all residents to remain committed to this cause and to support our efforts in any way they can.”
