Police authorities have revealed that an individual was compensated with the sum of N1,000 to impersonate the father of the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, in a viral video circulating on social media platforms.

The Kano State Police Command disclosed the details through an official statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

According to law enforcement, investigations were launched after a video surfaced online depicting an elderly man claiming to be the father of the federal lawmaker and alleging neglect by his son.

Preliminary findings by investigators established that the claims made in the recording were entirely fabricated and designed to mislead members of the public and defame the Deputy Senate President.

The suspect, upon interrogation by police operatives, confessed that he was approached by certain individuals who paid him N1,000 to present himself as the lawmaker’s parent in front of the camera.

The command further clarified that the authentic biological father of the Deputy Senate President passed away several years ago, rendering the individual in the video a complete impostor.

Police confirmed that active operations are ongoing to track down, arrest, and prosecute the sponsors and masterminds behind the viral video for defamation, criminal conspiracy, and public deceit.

The Kano State Police Command urged members of the public and media outlets to verify information before sharing, warning against the spread of false news intended to damage public reputations.
