The Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in Plateau State, Kefas Ropshik, has demanded accountability over President Bola Tinubu’s directive to deploy security surveillance cameras across the state.

He called on the Federal Government to explain the status of the promise made to residents.

Tinubu had ordered the installation of over 5,000 artificial intelligence-enabled digital cameras during a visit to Jos in April 2026, following deadly attacks that claimed dozens of lives. The project was meant to boost surveillance and support security agencies in combating insecurity.

Ropshik’s intervention comes months after the presidential directive, with residents and civil society groups earlier expressing concern over the slow pace of implementation. Many noted that the cameras were yet to be installed despite the urgency of the security situation.

State officials had previously described the project as ongoing, explaining that the systems are being custom-built to meet local requirements. However, the prolonged delay has continued to generate questions about the government’s commitment to the initiative.

The PDP candidate’s call adds to growing public pressure for transparency on the matter. Stakeholders are urging the Federal Government and relevant agencies to provide clear updates and accelerate the deployment of the surveillance network to enhance security in Plateau State.
