Operation EASTERN SANITY II troops from the 34 Artillery Brigade (under Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA) have exhumed the body of late Chief Ibe Anyadu, a community leader from Aggah. 

Chief Anyadu was allegedly killed by a criminal gang recently taken into custody for violent offenses in the area.

The discovery stems from intelligence-led operations that previously resulted in the arrest of suspects linked to the murder of a Nigerian Army soldier and the retrieval of stolen service weapons. Upon questioning, one suspect admitted to participating in Chief Anyadu’s murder and agreed to direct security forces to where he was buried.

On August 2, 2026, the suspect led troops to a shallow grave located inside the Umudike Forest, a known criminal hideout, where the community leader’s remains were recovered.

The exhumation was carried out alongside members of the deceased’s family, local vigilantes from Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area, and representatives from both the Aggah and Umudike communities. To honor their customs, the family supplied an ambulance and a casket for a respectful burial.

Major General Oluremi Ayobami Fadairo, Commander of Operation UDO KA, offered his sympathies to the family and prayed for the deceased. He reassured the family and the Aggah community that the suspects will face full prosecution under Nigerian law.

Operation UDO KA reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace in the South-East by dismantling criminal syndicates, ensuring justice for victims, and providing closure to affected families.
