Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have killed scores of terrorists during a coordinated air and ground offensive targeting four notorious bandit leaders—Dogo Gide, Najaja, Nasanda, and Buba Oris in Zamfara State.

Security sources said the operation was launched after credible intelligence received on July 25 indicated that hundreds of armed fighters had assembled along the Bayarzaki Riverline in Anka Local Government Area under the command of the four kingpins.

The gathering was reportedly aimed at preparing coordinated attacks across parts of Zamfara and neighbouring communities.

Acting on the intelligence, troops carried out precision air strikes on identified terrorist hideouts at Barayan Zaki and strategic crossing points along the Bayarzaki Riverline. At the same time, personnel of the 8 Division Strike Force positioned themselves at key locations before launching follow-up ground operations at daybreak.

The coordinated assault disrupted the terrorists’ planned movement, forcing the fighters to abandon their positions and retreat towards Barayan Zaki while attempting to cross the Gummi–Anka Main Supply Route.

Troops immediately pursued the fleeing terrorists, leading to a fierce gun battle at Kombo High Ground along the Anka–Gummi road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Military sources said soldiers overwhelmed the terrorists with superior firepower, killing scores of them and forcing the survivors to flee into nearby forests.

One soldier sustained injuries during the operation and was evacuated to the General Hospital in Anka for medical treatment. Military authorities said no equipment was lost during the engagement.

In a follow-up operation on July 26, troops returned to the area to conduct clearance and exploitation activities, recovering 13 rounds of PKT machine gun ammunition and one additional machine gun round while maintaining security patrols across the area.

Military authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, restrict the movement of bandit leaders, and prevent further attacks on communities and security formations across Zamfara and the wider North-West. They described the offensive as another significant setback for some of the region’s most wanted terrorist commanders, including Dogo Gide.
