A gas-laden tanker caught fire early Thursday morning along Abaranje Road in Ikotun, Lagos State.

The incident happened at Ola Farm Bus Stop but was quickly brought under control by emergency responders, with no loss of life or injuries reported.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, the tanker was speeding when it hit a road bump, causing the driver to lose control. This led to a tyre burst and the fire outbreak. LASEMA officials, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, extinguished the blaze and secured the area.

Other agencies, including traffic management and police, helped control traffic and manage crowds during the operation.

The burnt tanker is being evacuated from the road to restore normal flow.

LASEMA Permanent Secretary Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists to obey speed limits, especially near bumps and residential areas. He emphasised that such caution helps save lives and protect property.

The agency commended all responders and residents for their cooperation.

Officials reminded the public to report emergencies promptly using the state’s toll-free lines 112 and 767. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with hazardous material transport on busy roads.
