Portable Challenges Terry G to Boxing Match, Says the Fight Will Revive His Career
Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has thrown a challenge to veteran street music pioneer Terry G, calling him out for a celebrity boxing match that he believes would bring the older artiste back into the spotlight.
The Zazuu crooner made the declaration during an appearance on Channels Television’s Rubbin’ Minds programme, where he was asked to name a celebrity he would like to face in the ring.
Without hesitation, Portable settled on Terry G, brushing aside the interviewer’s suggestion that he might instead be interested in fighting social media personality VeryDarkMan or comedian Carter Efe.
He explained that his preference has always leaned towards facing fellow entertainers rather than online personalities, insisting that a face off with Terry G would carry far more weight and public interest than any other matchup being suggested to him.
Portable went further to explain his motivation, describing the proposed bout as an opportunity to resurrect Terry G’s career and restore him to public conversation.
He expressed confidence that a one on one boxing encounter between them would reignite attention around the veteran singer, who rose to fame in the early 2000s with hit songs that earned him recognition as one of the wild pioneers of Nigerian street music.
The singer also used the interview to reinforce his standing in Nigeria’s growing celebrity boxing scene, describing himself as the pioneer of the trend in the country and claiming to have earned significant sums from his previous bouts, which have included matchups against actor Charles Okocha, singer Speed Darlington and comedian Carter Efe. He revealed plans to face Okocha again in a rematch scheduled for July 31 in Lagos, expressing confidence that the contest would draw a massive crowd, before turning his attention fully to a potential clash with Terry G afterward.
Terry G is yet to publicly respond to Portable’s challenge, leaving fans and followers to speculate on social media about whether the veteran artiste will accept the offer. The call out has already sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians weighing in on the unexpected pairing and what such a fight could mean for both men’s public profiles going forward.
