New UNIPORT Vice Chancellor Warns Against Cultism, Sexual Harassment
The new Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Princewill Chike, has issued a strong warning to staff and students against engaging in cultism, sexual harassment, and other vices.
Chike m gave the warning shortly after taking over from his predecessor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, at a handover ceremony in Port Harcourt. He made it clear that such acts will not be tolerated under his leadership.
The vice chancellor unveiled an eight-point strategic agenda aimed at strengthening academic excellence, institutional growth, and discipline in the university.
He cautioned against any form of unrest on campus and urged students and unions to resolve issues amicably.
Prof. Chike also warned those involved in stealing university funds and sexually harassing female students to stop immediately, saying the governing council and the president are watching.
Chike emphasised the need for a peaceful and conducive learning environment. He encouraged students to focus on novel ideas and visibility while maintaining high standards of behaviour. The new vice chancellor promised to work closely with all stakeholders to move the university forward.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University Governing Council, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, commended the immediate past vice chancellor for ensuring a smooth transition. He assured Prof. Chike of the council’s full support and urged him to build on the achievements of his predecessor. The handover ceremony was described as seamless and colourful, marking a new chapter for the institution.
Prof. Princewill Chike’s warning has been welcomed by many within the university community. His firm stance on discipline is seen as a positive step toward maintaining the reputation of the University of Port Harcourt. As he begins his tenure, there are high expectations that he will drive academic excellence and create a safe environment for learning and research.
