Troops Apprehend Chadian Courier Transporting Illicit Drugs to Terrorists in Borno

Troops of Sector 3, Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested a suspected foreign drug courier and intercepted a large consignment of illicit substances intended for terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Islands.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Mrs. Rachael Samuel, a Chadian national from the Chari-Baguirmi Province, was apprehended during an intensive stop-and-search operation along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis in Borno State.

She was traveling in a suspicious vehicle heading toward Kwatan Doron Baga in the Kukawa Local Government Area when troops intercepted the vehicle.

Military officials recovered seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis sativa weighing approximately 30 kilograms, two 10-liter containers of hydromercuric chloride (locally known as “Suck and Die”), 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages. The military noted that terrorist networks frequently rely on such intoxicants to stimulate fighters and facilitate operations, making the bust a major disruption to their local logistics and supply lines. The suspect remains in military custody and will be handed over to appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution.
