Bwala Sues Al Jazeera in the UK, Rejects Private Apology Over Edited Interview

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has revealed that he is taking legal action against international broadcaster Al Jazeera in the United Kingdom over the controversial editing of his appearance on the network’s Head to Head program, hosted by journalist Mehdi Hasan.

Speaking on The Morayo Show, Bwala explained that Al Jazeera had offered a private apology acknowledging its failure to notify him that his personal credibility and past criticisms of President Tinubu would be a core talking point of the interview. However, Bwala rejected the private gesture, demanding that the network issue a public apology on social media. After Al Jazeera declined stating that a public apology would damage its institutional credibility Bwala instructed his legal team in England to file a defamation lawsuit.

Bwala contends that the broadcaster engaged in unethical “selective editing,” cutting down a 90-minute recording to a 49-minute broadcast. He alleges that the final edit removed his opening remarks, omitted instances where he successfully challenged the host, and intentionally used “cut and joined” footage to create an embarrassing, misleading narrative that damaged his professional reputation. The case is now officially before a UK court.
