Embattled PIFC DG Vows to Cooperate with Corruption Probe Over Disputed Council
Adeniyi Adeyemi, the leader of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council,(PIFC) has promised to cooperate with investigators looking into his organization.
This statement comes after President Bola Tinubu ordered an anti-corruption agency to thoroughly probe the controversial body within thirty days. Adeyemi insists that his participation will help clear up the confusion regarding the group’s legal standing and operations.
The presidency has completely disowned the council, calling it a fake setup that lacks any official or legal backing. Authorities accuse Adeyemi of using forged presidential documents to claim a top government title and manage unauthorized operations.
Although he faces serious charges of forgery and impersonation in court, he firmly maintains that his papers are genuine.
A major concern in the ongoing scandal is how this unrecognized body managed to secure a ₦1.3 billion allocation in the national budget. Critics and civil groups are demanding to know how the agency passed through official screening processes without being detected. Investigators are now focused on finding out if internal government workers secretly helped the group look legitimate.
The investigation has also put pressure on high-ranking offices, including that of the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, over the source of the appointment letters. While presidential spokespersons state that forensic tests proved the signatures were copied, public observers are calling for total transparency. Some activist groups are even asking top officials to step aside during the month-long inquiry.
As the probe gets underway, all government ministries have been ordered to hand over their financial and administrative files to investigators. The main goal of this exercise is to find the security gaps that allowed the situation to happen and prevent future occurrences.
The final results of the investigation will be crucial in restoring public trust in how government appointments are handled.
