Enugu Police Command Impounds 195 Vehicles for Number Plate Violations
The Enugu State Police Command have seized 195 vehicles for various offences related to number plate regulations.
The operation was supervised by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, as part of a statewide enforcement drive. Many of the impounded vehicles had faded, covered, or missing plates, while others were unregistered or had only one plate instead of the required two.
The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, explained that the exercise follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police to crack down on unregistered vehicles and improper identification. Owners of the seized vehicles will be prosecuted according to the law.
The command has warned motorists to comply with registration requirements to avoid similar actions in the future.
This enforcement is aimed at improving road safety and security by ensuring all vehicles on the roads can be properly identified. Unregistered or improperly plated vehicles are often linked to criminal activities, making the operation necessary for public safety. The police have advised drivers to regularize their documents and display clear number plates at all times.
The action in Enugu aligns with similar operations in other states to enforce the National Road Traffic Regulations. Motorists are urged to cooperate with security agencies and avoid any form of misconduct during checks. The command has assured that officers found engaging in extortion or harassment will face disciplinary measures.
As the enforcement continues, vehicle owners in Enugu are expected to take necessary steps to bring their vehicles into compliance. The police remain committed to sustaining the operation to promote order on the roads. This initiative is part of broader efforts to reduce traffic offences and enhance overall security in the state.
