Gombe, Zazzau Emirs Reaffirm Commitment to Unity, Peace, Cultural Heritage

The Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among traditional institutions, describing it as essential to promoting national unity, peace, security and the preservation of Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The monarch made the remarks during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, at his palace in Zaria.

Abubakar III, who also serves as Chairman of the Gombe State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, said sustained engagement among traditional rulers would enhance efforts to address issues affecting national cohesion and grassroots development.

According to him, the visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the Gombe and Zazzau Emirates, noting that regular interactions among traditional rulers help reinforce brotherhood, unity and solidarity.

The Gombe Emir further stated that continuous consultations among royal fathers remain crucial for improving security, preserving the country’s rich cultural heritage and fostering peaceful coexistence across communities.

He also commended the leadership of the Emir of Zazzau, describing traditional rulers as important partners in supporting government initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development and lasting peace.

Responding, Bamalli said the visit reflected the enduring bond among Nigeria’s traditional institutions and reaffirmed their collective commitment to national unity and development.

The Emir of Zazzau noted that the relationship between the two emirates dates back to the 19th-century Islamic reform movement led by Usman dan Fodio, which laid the foundation for governance, scholarship and peaceful coexistence across Northern Nigeria.

He stressed that preserving such historical ties remains important for strengthening dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation among traditional institutions, particularly at a time when the country is confronting security and socio-economic challenges.

Bamalli also reiterated his commitment to initiatives that promote peace, education, community development and national integration, while urging Nigerians to embrace unity and tolerance for the country’s progress.

The visit concluded with special prayers for peace, stability and prosperity in Kaduna State, Gombe State and the nation as a whole.
