INEC Avails Parties with Access Codes for 2027 Candidate Nominations
The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued access codes to registered political parties, allowing them to submit the names and nomination papers of their candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The commission originally slater to provide the access codes on Friday, June 26, but the release was delayed until Monday to guarantee a smooth upload process.
Sources from INEC and political parties indicated that the adjustment was intended to avoid technical issues during the submission of candidates' information.
INEC had previously allocated the official nomination forms to all engaged political parties.
A source from the commission indicates that the access codes' release signifies the last phase of the nomination procedure, enabling parties to submit filled-out forms and necessary documents through the commission's online portal.
The nomination forms that need to be filled out have already been received by the political parties.
What was left was the issuance of the access codes enabling the forms to be uploaded, and that has now been accomplished, the source stated.
In the meantime, the Peoples Democratic Party has started the process of documenting its candidates.
Last Wednesday, the party awarded Certificates of Return to its selected candidates following the confirmation of the results of its primaries for presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly positions for the 2027 general election.
Every successful PDP candidate received INEC nomination forms and was instructed to submit the filled documents within 72 hours so the party could start uploading them via the INEC portal.
Likewise, the All Progressives Congress has warned its members and the public not to depend on unofficial reports purporting to declare winners of its party primaries.
A public announcement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, and shared on the party's official X account, indicated that the ruling party had not published any official roster of successful candidates.
The statement indicated that the public should ignore any publication or report claiming to announce the results of the primaries, as that information is both false and unauthorized.
The APC stated that all successful candidates would receive formal notifications via the party's official communication channels prior to being given their Certificates of Return.
