Benue Police Arrest 10 Suspects Over Ambush, Killing of State MACBAN Chairman, Son
The Benue State Police Command have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the killing of the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, and his son, Ibrahim.
The tragic incident occurred in the Otukpo Local Government Area of the state while the victims were returning from a critical security and peace meeting. The meeting had been convened near Ahimeni in the Okodu area to foster dialogue and peaceful coexistence between local farming and herding communities. Shortly after departing the venue, the chairman and his son were ambushed by suspected militia members, who shot and killed them both at the scene.
Following widespread condemnation of the killings and concerns that the attack would escalate communal tensions, tactical teams from the Benue State Police Command launched a coordinated intelligence-led operation. The sweep resulted in the immediate arrest of the 10 suspects, who are currently undergoing intensive interrogation to uncover the motive behind the ambush and identify any remaining collaborators. Community leaders and security stakeholders have strongly urged residents to avoid ethnic profiling or retaliatory actions, emphasizing that justice should be left to the appropriate law enforcement channels.
