Police Arrest Two Suspected Cable Vandals, Recover Stolen Electric Wires in Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected electric cable vandals in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, and recovered vandalised electric cables believed to have been stolen by the suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued to journalists in Warri on Saturday.

According to the statement, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on June 25, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m. by officers from the Kwale Police Station in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group.

The police said the team responded to credible information that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.

On sighting the security operatives, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee. During the operation, one of them sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment, while the other remains in police custody.

The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Osakwe Sunday and 34-year-old Ekene Obocha.

Police also confirmed the recovery of the vandalised electric cables, which have been taken into custody as exhibits.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, cautioned criminal elements against vandalising government infrastructure and other public assets, warning that the command would continue to track down, arrest and prosecute offenders.

He also appealed to residents to support law enforcement efforts by providing prompt and credible information that could aid crime prevention and investigation.
