Amotekun Foils N30m Ransom Demand, Rescues Eight Abductees in Ondo Gun Battle
Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have rescued eight persons abducted by suspected kidnappers in different parts of the state, following a fierce gun battle with the abductors.
The state commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the development in a statement on Thursday, disclosing that none of the victims’ families paid any ransom before their release, despite demands made by the kidnappers.
Adeleye explained that some of the victims were abducted from Ilado Community in Akure North Local Government Area, where criminal elements had launched attacks on residents.
Among those rescued was Fagbonmire Durojaiye, a pastor and teacher serving with the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
The commander revealed that the kidnappers had demanded N30 million as ransom for the release of the victims. However, the demand went unmet, as operatives moved swiftly to locate and confront the abductors. According to Adeleye, the operation was not without resistance, as security personnel engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun duel before overpowering them and securing all eight victims safely.
Adeleye reaffirmed the commitment of the Amotekun Corps to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state, while urging members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist security agencies in their operations.
