Police Kill Two Suspected Kidnappers in Ogun, Recover N2.2m

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during an operation targeting a gang linked to the abduction of a resident in Ogbe Village.

The police said a firearm, mobile phone, expended cartridge and ₦2.2 million suspected to be proceeds of crime were recovered from the scene.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation was conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit following the rescue of the victim, who was abducted on June 11, 2026.

Babaseyi said the victim was released unharmed on June 18 after intelligence gathering, surveillance and sustained pressure mounted by operatives forced the kidnappers to abandon their captive.

He said police operatives subsequently intensified efforts to identify and arrest members of the gang, leading them to a hideout within the state.

According to the command, the suspects fired at the operatives upon sighting them in an attempt to evade arrest, resulting in a gun battle.

Two suspects were killed in the exchange, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds, the police said.

A single-barrel gun was found on one of the suspects, while officers also recovered an expended cartridge, a mobile phone and ₦2.2 million cash from the location.

The command said investigations were continuing and that efforts had been stepped up to arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for its conduct during the operation.

Ojajuni said the command would sustain intelligence-driven operations against kidnappers and other violent criminals, while urging residents to provide useful information to security agencies.
