Bauchi Lawmaker, Wanzam Mohammed Zaki Dies After Brief Illness

Honourable Wanzam Mohammed Zaki, the member representing Sakwa Constituency in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, has passed away at the age of 60 following a brief illness.

The announcement of his death was made in a statement by the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Abubakar Y. Sulaiman, through his spokesman, Mukhtar Garba Kobi. The Speaker expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the late lawmaker as a committed, dependable, and dedicated public servant who served his constituency and the state with great distinction.

Following Islamic rites, the funeral prayer for the deceased legislator was held at the Gwallaga Juma’at Mosque in Bauchi.

Until his death, Zaki played an influential role in the assembly as the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, where he spearheaded critical policy oversight and budget scrutiny aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

Reacting to the painful loss, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, expressed profound shock and sadness. In a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor characterized Zaki as a humble leader and a patriotic bridge-builder whose political career was defined by simplicity and integrity. The governor extended his heartfelt sympathies to the immediate family, the people of Sakwa Constituency, and the Katagum Emirate Council, urging them to find solace in the lasting legacy of selflessness the lawmaker left behind.
