Rivers Command Probes DPO Baridon Monsi Over Alleged Unlawful Detention, Professional Misconduct

The Rivers State Police Command have launched a comprehensive investigation into a Divisional Police Officer following serious allegations of professional misconduct and unlawful detention.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, ordered the command’s investigative panel to immediately look into the matter after reports detailing the incident began circulating on social media and digital news platforms. The police chief emphasized that a thorough inquiry is necessary to establish the exact facts of the case, maintain transparency, and preserve public confidence in local law enforcement operations.

To ensure a fair and impartial outcome, the police command has urged the individuals directly affected by the alleged misconduct, as well as members of the public with relevant information, to come forward and assist investigators. Affected parties have been advised to visit the state headquarters in Port Harcourt or reach out directly to the Complaint Response Unit via dedicated communication lines.

CP Adepoju warned that any officer found guilty of abusing their office, violating human rights, or engaging in unethical practices will face strict disciplinary actions under the Nigeria Police Act and the Constitution.

He noted that the probe aligns directly with directives from Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu to enforce a policy of “security with respect for human rights” and eliminate corruption within the ranks.
