NEC Approves N83.2 Billion for National Flood Intervention
The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved N83.2 billion for urgent flood intervention projects in different parts of the country.
This decision aims to help communities that are often affected by heavy flooding and to reduce the damage caused by such disasters. The move is part of broader efforts to improve how Nigeria handles emergency situations and supports affected areas.
Council members also discussed ways to strengthen the regional development framework to make sure development projects are better coordinated across states. This is expected to bring more unity in planning and execution of projects that can benefit multiple regions at once.
The approval shows the government’s commitment to tackling climate-related challenges that continue to threaten lives and property in many communities.
Flooding has become a yearly problem in several states, destroying homes, farmlands, and infrastructure. The released funds will be used for immediate relief, building of drainage systems, and other protective measures. Officials believe this intervention will help save lives and allow people to recover faster after flood events.
The National Economic Council, which brings together state governors and key federal officials, stressed the need for long-term solutions. By strengthening regional frameworks, the government hopes to prevent future disasters and promote sustainable development.
This includes better early warning systems and community involvement in disaster management.
This latest approval is seen as a positive step towards protecting vulnerable Nigerians from the effects of climate change. Many are hopeful that the funds will be used wisely and reach the areas that need them most. As work begins, the focus remains on building a more resilient nation that can withstand natural challenges while continuing to grow.
