“APC Using Judiciary to Crush Opposition, Says Secondus”
Former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Uche Secondus, has levelled serious allegations against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the party of orchestrating a calculated move to eliminate opposition and establish a one-party state in Nigeria ahead of upcoming elections.
Secondus made these claims in reaction to a Federal High Court ruling that led to the deregistration of several political parties in Nigeria, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC). He described the court’s decision as a dangerous and deliberate assault on the foundations of Nigeria’s democratic system.
Speaking with visible concern, the former PDP chairman argued that dissolving political parties midway through an electoral cycle was not only unconstitutional but deeply troubling, warning that such actions threaten the principle of multi-party democracy that Nigeria has worked hard to build over the years.
Secondus further contended that the APC was weaponizing the judiciary to systematically weaken opposition parties and clear the political field in its favour. He maintained that a healthy democracy thrives on competition, choice, and the active participation of voters across diverse political platforms.
The former chairman stressed that the deregistration of parties poses a grave threat to voter participation, as millions of Nigerians who identify with these parties could be effectively disenfranchised. He called on Nigerians, civil society groups, and democratic institutions to rise up and resist what he described as a blatant attempt to undermine the rule of law and subvert the will of the people.
