Trump Arrives in France for G7 Summit After Announcing Iran War Deal
The United States’ President, Donald Trump arrived in France on Monday for the Group of Seven (G7) summit, a day after announcing a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the war between the United States and Iran.
The three-day summit brings together leaders of the world’s major industrialized nations and is expected to focus heavily on the Iran conflict, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, global economic challenges, and efforts to secure critical mineral supplies outside China.
Trump’s arrival comes amid growing international attention on the reported U.S.-Iran agreement, which officials say could pave the way for a ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and further negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme. While details of the deal remain limited, both Washington and Tehran have indicated progress toward ending the months-long conflict.
G7 leaders are expected to discuss the next steps following the agreement, as well as its implications for regional stability and global energy markets.
The summit will also address continued fighting in Ukraine, where leaders are expected to seek coordinated support for Kyiv amid ongoing Russian military operations.
The meeting takes place against a backdrop of broader geopolitical tensions and concerns among some allies over U.S. foreign policy decisions. However, the Iran agreement is likely to dominate early discussions as leaders assess its prospects for lasting peace in the Middle East.
The G7 summit runs from June 15 to June 17 in the French Alps, with several world leaders expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the gathering.
