Oshoala Rallies Super Falcons Ahead of WAFCON Challenge

As the highly anticipated Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) draws closer, Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala has issued a passionate call for unwavering support for the Nigerian women’s national team.

The Al Hilal forward, who has been a longtime ambassador for women’s football in Africa, stressed that the team needs the backing of all Nigerians to successfully reclaim the continental crown. Speaking in a recent interview, Oshoala acknowledged the challenges ahead but expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to rise to the occasion, provided they have the nation’s full encouragement.

Oshoala, a six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, emphasized that the Falcons are determined to make up for past disappointments, including their surprising early exit in the last WAFCON edition.

She noted that the team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, both tactically and mentally, to ensure they return to the summit of African football. The striker called on fans, sports administrators, and fellow athletes to flood the stands and social media with positive energy, stating that such collective motivation often makes the difference in high-pressure tournaments.

The Super Falcons, who hold the record for the most WAFCON titles, are currently fine-tuning their preparations in a closed camping camp, with friendly matches scheduled to test their readiness. Oshoala highlighted that the resurgence of other African powerhouses like South Africa, Morocco, and Zambia means Nigeria cannot afford any lapse in concentration or support.

She urged Nigerians to see the tournament not just as a sporting event but as a national project, adding that the players are ready to wear the green-white-green with pride and fight for every ball.

With the tournament set to kick off in Morocco next month, the mood within the Falcons’ camp is one of quiet determination mixed with optimism. Oshoala concluded her appeal by reminding everyone that when Nigeria rallies behind its women, they have historically delivered glorious results.

“We hear you, now we need you to hear us and stand with us,” she said, sending a clear message that the road to the title begins with unity off the pitch.
