Lagos Police Dismiss School Attack Rumours, Activate Watertight Security Measures
The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that there is no verified intelligence indicating any imminent attack on schools in the state, dismissing panic caused by a threatening notice circulating on social media.
The reassurance follows growing concern among parents and school administrators after reports emerged of a physical notice purportedly pasted at an undisclosed school, claiming that bandits intended to invade and abduct schoolchildren.
In an official statement released on Monday, June 8, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, stated that while the Command treats all security alerts with the utmost seriousness, thorough assessments show no credible threat to educational institutions within Lagos.
Despite the lack of verified intelligence, the state leadership has taken a proactive stance. Commissioner of Police Tijani Fatai has directed an immediate security assessment and ordered “watertight security measures” to protect schools, critical infrastructure, and local communities. Police personnel, working in close coordination with sister security agencies, have been deployed to reinforce presence and surveillance across strategic educational nodes throughout the state.
The Command strongly urged residents, parents, and guardians to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumors that generate unnecessary public anxiety. The police reiterated that Lagos remains secure, warning that law enforcement will not tolerate any attempts by miscreants, bandits, or kidnappers to disrupt public peace. SP Adebisi maintained that any individual or group found fabricating or spreading false security threats to manipulate public emotions will face swift legal consequences.
