UN Demands Immediate Release of Abducted Pupils, Teachers in Oyo, Borno
The United Nations has called for the immediate and unconditional release of pupils and teachers abducted in Oyo and Borno states.
The global body expressed deep concern over the rising cases of kidnapping in schools and urged the kidnappers to free the victims without any harm. This appeal comes as insecurity continues to affect education in parts of the country.
The UN stressed that children and teachers should never be targets of violence or abduction. It reminded all parties involved in conflicts that attacking schools and kidnapping students violates international laws.
The organisation also called on Nigerian authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted persons and ensure their safe return to their families.
Many parents and residents in the affected areas are living in fear following these incidents. Schools in vulnerable communities have become targets, disrupting learning and creating panic among students. The UN’s statement is seen as a strong global voice against the use of children as tools in criminal activities.
This development highlights the urgent need for better security around educational institutions. Stakeholders have urged the government to provide more protection for schools, especially in regions prone to banditry and insurgency. The safety of pupils and teachers remains a major concern for many Nigerians.
As the UN continues to monitor the situation, many hope the kidnappers will heed the call and release the victims unharmed. The appeal adds to growing pressure on security agencies to act swiftly and bring an end to school abductions in Oyo, Borno, and other affected states.
